Mercedes-Benz Teases The EQA Electric SUV In Official ‘Spy Shots’
The vehicle was seen winter testing in Sweden before it’s scheduled debut at the 2020 Paris Auto Show
The Mercedes-Benz EQA concept vehicle was revealed three years ago at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show. Right now, the vehicle is getting ready for its official debut in the following months. And that is set for the Paris Auto Show, slated for the later parts of the year, where the small electric SUV will have its world premiere. However, before that, the carmaker is making sure that everything functions properly, done through various testing the vehicle is put through in the recent few months. And one of those test phases involves cold-weather testing, undertaken in Sweden by the German car manufacturer.
Mercedes-Benz took the sibling of the new GLA to Sweden, where they’ve paid attention to various aspects of the vehicle and their behavior in cold weather conditions. These include how the cold-climate affects charging and how the below-zero temperatures affect the thermal management of the battery and the inside of the vehicle. Furthermore, the carmaker did a variety of usual testing that new vehicles go through, including handling, braking and other behavior on icy roads. In addition to that, Mercedes tested how the energy recovery works on ice and snow-covered roads, but also, the traction of the electric vehicle in those conditions was tested as well.
The EQA is set to be slotted right under the bigger brother, the EQC, based on the MEA EVA II platform, alongside the EQB – the electric version of the really interesting GLB. According to current information, the vehicle will be offered with several battery capacities. These will feature a capacity between 60 and 110 kWh, resulting in a potential minimum driving range of around 400 km (248 miles). In addition to that, the vehicle will be available with up to three electric motors, producing 201 horsepower (204 PS / 150 kW), 268 horsepower (272 PS / 200 kW) and 335 horsepower (340 PS / 250 kW). Right now, there’s not a lot of confirmed information regarding neither the range or the performance specs, but we should be seeing something along with these numbers, at least range wise.
