The NIO EC6 continues in the same luxury, the high-performance path of previous NIO models, offering 0-100km/h (0-62mph) time of 4.7 seconds

The highly anticipated NIO EC6 SUV EV production has started. Its production line is located at the JAC-NIO Advanced Manufacturing Center in Hefei, where the carmaker aims to continue to climb out of its last year’s slump. The production start was marked by the William Li, Founder, Chairman and CEO of NIO and An Jin, Chairman of JAC announcing the official launch of the production of NIO’s smart electric coupe SUV, the EC6. Naturally, other senior officials of the Anhui provincial government and Hefei municipal government, alongside many government officials also attended the event.

A third model NIO model manufactured at the JAC-NIO Advanced Manufacturing Center, the NIO EC6 is dubbed by the carmaker as a smart electric coupe SUV. According to the Chinese car manufacturer, the vehicle is set to compete against the Model 3. However, the crossover size might put it right between the Model X and the Model Y. In addition to that, the EC6 continues in the same luxury, high-performance path of previous NIO models. In turn, a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) time of 4.7 seconds seems appropriate. Furthermore, the vehicle will come in three distinct variants: a 70kWh, 84kWh, and the newly introduced 100kWh liquid-cooled battery pack. The latter is set to be introduced later in 2020 and it would allow the NIO EC6 to obtain an NEDC range of up to 615km, roughly 300 miles.

Well, there’s only one problem. Coronavirus in China. However, the company and its launch of the EC6 production at the JAC-NIO Advanced Manufacturing Center clearly give us a hint that NIO is eager to resume production. Hopefully, that will happen to the fullest extent real soon. And with the battery swap option with the NIO vehicles, the customers have increased range confidence as they can make a choice of either charging their car’s batteries or swapping them altogether. If you’re wondering what would have happened if Tesla pursued their swapping strategy, we are too. However, due to the California Air Resource Board (CARB) put a stop to that, we’ll probably never know.
